The first ads I made in my career were for Nike Europe while freelancing at W+ K Amsterdam. Adidas was the #1 brand in team handball and well established in their home country of Germany, where the sport was very popular. To introduce Nike to the German market and de-position Adidas as the old guard, we came up with a palm reading concept that featured outlandish predictions about the future of the sport. My German art director partner and I watched a lot of matches and got deep inside handball, learning important facts like which players were known for their oversized mouth guards. The campaign ran for two years with new predictions and was created under legendary W+ K creative directors Bob Moore and Michael Prieve.
